Are you looking for a practical volunteering opportunity, one that will have an immediate and tangible positive impact for you or your organisation and for members of our community who need support?

Our organisation can only operate with the support of our dedicated volunteers, without their significant support it wouldn’t be possible for us to do the work we do.  If you would like to join our volunteer team read on.

At Food Share we have 100 volunteers who support the work we do, annually our wonderful volunteers contributed over 6000 hours of time and talent to support our community. Our volunteers say their experience with us is both rewarding, lots of fun and has allowed them to make many new friends.  

We have a range of flexible volunteering options for you to choose from depending on your interest, skills and the time you have available, and we aim to make to process really easy for you.

Step 1 – Review the roles

Review the roles we have listed below, noting all our volunteering roles are flexible and we will always chat with you about what best suits you and your lifestyle.

  • Admin and data gem – this role involves general admin tasks and may be performed at the warehouse office or at your home.
  • Warehouse worker – a practical role sorting and packaging recovered food from supermarkets and bakeries (safe food handling) plus general warehouse duties including restocking, re packaging and cleaning, a role with lots of variety.
  • Social media guru – if you are passionate about social media and have an eye for branding consistency and clear messaging one role is for you.
  • Woodshed helper – this is a flexible role helping to cut and package donated wood offcuts for our fundraiser and delivering bagged firewood to Maceys.
  • Driver (Transit van) or co driver – our daily two up team complete a designated run to our partner supermarkets and bakeries rescuing food donations, this role suits those who like an early start (8am) and a good chat.
  • Emergency food hamper packer – this is a practical hands-on role packing emergency food hampers to order for our agencies and schools, it’s just like going shopping.

As a new volunteer you will enjoy a “come and try” session which will assist you get a feel for our warehouse operations, you can then decide if we are the volunteer option for you.

Once confirmed you will receive a Workplace Safety and Safe Food Handling overview as part of your orientation to our warehouse procedures.

Note – we enjoy lots of volunteering enquiries and are always happy to record your name and phone number as our landscape of volunteers constantly changes.
